Scenario One – In-Flight Purchasing
An airline traveler wishes to order a drink during their flight. Reaching into the seat pocket in front of them they retrieve a menu listing the available drink options. Next to each item on the list is an Apitap remote product data code. Starting their Apitap mobile application, the traveler selects a payment account, and scans their desired drink choice. Confirming and completing the transaction, the order is processed, approved, and the attendant station is notified that a drink order has been placed. Flight attendants can then simply retrieve the order and deliver it to the traveler at their seat. Travelers no longer need to first page the attendant and then ask for available choices, wait for the attendant to return with the credit card mobile terminal and then have to deal with the process of handing over their credit cards and going through the traditional approval process. By eliminating the back and forth that currently exists, it can make the flight attendants job more productive and as well as make the traveler’s experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Travelers would be able to instantly redeem add-ons during flights, such as headphones or additional food, without the need for the attendant to process each seat one by one. The attendant station could simply print a list of each seat that has purchased headphones or snacks through Apitap .
Scenario Two – Catalog Shopping
A traveler is viewing an in-flight shopping magazine. As they view the magazine, they find several items which catch their interest. Noticing that the items in the magazine have Apitap product data codes next to each of them, the traveler opens their Apitap application, selects a payment account, and scans each item they are interested in. Purchases would be able to happen instantly as consumers look through the magazines rather than waiting for them to get home, where their urge to buy may no longer exist.
Scenario Three – Check-In and Services Purchasing
A traveler is running late for their flight, and they are carrying more luggage than their current flight allows per passenger. As they proceed to check in their baggage, they open their Apitap application and process payments for the extra luggage by scanning the provided product data codes. By processing payments at the beginning of the check-in process without the need for logging into and swiping their credit cards at the gate terminals, the traveler is able to move much quicker through the check-in process and make it to their flight easier.
Scenario Four – Follower Promotions
Taking advantage of the purchase history and real-time engagement, airlines and other travel industry companies would be able to target special promotions and offers to consumers who have elected to follow the merchant and be notified of future offers. Travel industries can also offer special variations of rewards clubs, aimed at specific consumer preferences, for example. Frequent travel to certain destinations is included in one club variation, while other travel itineraries are associated with other clubs and discounts.
